Movers & Shakers Highlight NCAA DIII Regional Rankings In Week 2

NEW ORLEANS — A remarkable jump highlighted a relatively slow week when it comes to the Regional Rankings in NCAA Division III Cross Country.

All eight of the women’s regions were untouched, as were seven of the men’s. That leaves one where some shifting occurred: the Great Lakes Region.

QUICK LINKSRegional Rankings Summary PDF | Men’s Rankings | Women’s Rankings | Rankings Central

The Mount Union men soared from No. 5 to No. 1 following a huge effort this past weekend. The Purple Raiders had three runners inside the top-10 at the Yellow Jacket Invitational and won in a rout over Case Western Reserve and St. Lawrence. Preston Myers was Mount Union’s top finisher and the top finisher of the meet (1st, 25:38.7).

With the Purple Raiders’ rise, comes the fall of previous No. 1 Wabash (down to No. 3). Allegheny (Pa.) and Ohio Northern each fell one spot from No. 3 to No. 4 and No. 4 to No. 5, respectively. Calvin remained at No. 2.

Another region that saw some movement was the Atlantic Region in the women’s rankings. SUNY Geneseo is still the top-ranked team, but the order changed behind it. RPI is now No. 2 (up from No. 3), while Ithaca (No. 6 to No.3) and Stevens (No. 7 to No. 4) both jumped three spots. This past weekend Ithaca placed second at the Yellow Jacket Invitational, while the Ducks edged SUNY Oneonta (down from No. 2 to No. 6 this week) at the Airfield Invitational.

Other teams that improved multiple spots in the top-5 of their respective regions include the Bates men (No. 7 to No. 5 in the New England), the Gustavus Adolphus men (No. 5 to No. 3 in the Central), the Rhodes men (No. 5 to No. 3 in the South/Southeast) as well as the Whitworth women (No. 4 to No. 2) and Pomona-Pitzer women (No. 6 to No. 4) in the West.

The NCAA Division III Regional Championships will be held November 12 across the nation. Then the 2016 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships will take place one week later in Louisville, Kentucky at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer Park.

See below for more information on the rankings, including overviews of each region as well as the full top-10 lists at the bottom of this post.
