The rankings, announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Monday, show that Southern California is not going away quietly. The Trojans rose in the rankings to 4th on the week after all declarations were made for the East and West Regionals, to be held in Lexington, Kentucky and Austin, Texas this weekend, respectively.
The Trojans fell out of the top-5 last week for just the 2nd time this season, but roared back this week – after the team declared 22 entrants into the West Regionals – to leapfrog Texas A&M and Georgia, each of whom fell a spot to 5th and 6th, respectively.
Oregon, Arkansas and LSU held onto the top-3 spots in the rankings this week ahead of the championships portion of the schedule. That’s not surprising, seeing that the Ducks hold the most entries into the championship portion of the season at 31, followed by 28 from both the Razorbacks and Tigers.
Kentucky held its ground in the 7th spot on the week, while Texas and Florida switched spots from a week ago with the Longhorns moving to 8th ahead of the Gators. The 9th-place ranking for the Gators is the lowest on the season for the program after having sat in 8th the last 2 weeks.
Baylor rounded out the top-10 for the 2nd-consecutive week.

While Southern California benefitted mightily in the rankings after declarations were made, so too did another Pac-12 program.
Washington jumped 6 spots in the rankings to 18th after teetering on the edge of the top-25 over the last 4 weeks. The Huskies owned the 12th-spot in the rankings during week 3 but then fell to 24th shortly thereafter.
Also rising in the rankings on the week was Virginia Tech, moving from 12th to 11th, Ole Miss, jumping 1 spot to 22nd and San Diego State, who returned to the 25th spot in the rankings for the 1st time in 8 weeks. The Aztecs were ranked 25th in the preseason poll before falling out of the top-25 from weeks 1-7.
You’ll see many of the teams listed here – and more – at the 2017 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships from June 7-10 at Historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. If you can’t watch NCAAs in person, make sure to follow along with them across the ESPN family of networks starting June 7 at 3:30 pm ET on ESPN3 and throughout the weekend, culminating in the final day (June 10) showing in prime time at 6:30 pm ET on ESPN.
