The 2018 Outdoor Season And The Collegiate Record Book
Does anybody else need to catch their breath?
The 2018 collegiate outdoor track & field season came to a thrilling conclusion this past weekend at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
It was inside the friendly confines of Historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, where four collegiate records fell, as did nine meet records and five facility records. Southern California’s men did most of the heavy lifting as they had their hand in bettering three of those collegiate records (400, 400 hurdles, 4×400), which also established new meet records and facility records in those respective events.
All told, 10 – Count them, 10! – collegiate records fell during the 2018 season.

Southern California’s 4×400 team of Ricky Morgan Jr, Rai Benjamin, Zach Shinnick and Michael Norman were the last to etch their names into the record book as they wrapped up the third day of the 2018 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships by smashing LSU’s 13-year-old record in the event.
That’s not the only thing that happened to the collegiate outdoor record book this season.
Overall, there were 77 new additions to the all-time charts, be it performers or performances.
