NCAA DII RECORD: Azamati Tops Green’s 38-Year-Old 100 Best

Benjamin Azamati of West Texas A&M thought Darrell Green’s NCAA Division II record in the 100 meters had stood far too long, so he took matters into his own hands on Friday afternoon at the Texas Relays.

Azamati blistered the Mike A. Myers Stadium track in Heat 8 of qualifying to the tune of 9.97 (+1.5) to absolutely demolish Green’s 38-year-old standard of 10.08 from 1983.

No one was even close to Azamati, as he won the sectional crown by 0.34 seconds.

We’ll see what Azamati can do in Saturday’s final, set for 2:41 pm CT.
