2016 NJCAA DI All-Americans Announced for Cross Country

NEW ORLEANS – All-America awards for the 2016 NJCAA Division I Cross Country season were announced Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Awards were earned by the top 15 finishers in the men’s and women’s races in El Dorado, Kansas, this past Saturday.

Men’s national champion Central Arizona and men’s national runner-up Iowa Central CC accounted for more than half of their gender’s awards with four apiece. Central Arizona topped Iowa Central CC, 49-62, with the third-place South Plains men were another 50 points back with 112.

The champion Vaqueros were led by two-time national individual champion Gilbert Kigen.

Both third-place South Plains and 13th-place Cloud County CC earned two All-America honors, each.

All-American honors in the women’s race – as indicated by the eight-point difference between national champ Lansing CC and fourth-place Iowa Central CC – were much more widely distributed.

Third-place El Paso CC, eighth-place South Plains, and Monroe led the way with two All-Americans apiece.

National champion Lansing CC, runner-up Central Arizona and fourth-place Iowa Central CC were among the remaining nine teams with one All-American, each.
