NCAA DI TF All-Academic TeamsAll-Academic Teams & Scholar Teams of the Year in NCAA DI Track & Field
NEW ORLEANS – Scholar Teams of the Year and All-Academic Team honors for the 2016-17 NCAA Division I Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field seasons were announced Thursday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
As far as the Scholar Teams of the Year are concerned, the Texas A&M men and the Georgia women swept honors after standing out in the classroom and in competition.
In order to be in contention for Scholar Team of the Year, a program must finish highly at the respective national championship meet and have at least a 3.00 cumulative team GPA.

This is the first time in the history of the award that the Aggie men and Bulldog women were honored.
Texas A&M put together an incredible year as it won the indoor team title and finished runner-up to Florida outdoors – all while maintaining a team GPA of 3.02.
The SEC has a stranglehold on the Men’s Scholar Team of the Year honors, having swept them since 2012. The Aggies are the third team in the past three years to be named both Indoor and Outdoor Scholar Teams of the Year (Tennessee, 2016; Arkansas, 2015).
Speaking of domination, Georgia is the fourth program to sweep the Women’s Scholar Team of the Year honors and joins Arkansas (2016), Texas (2014) and Arizona State (2007, 2008) in that regard.
The Bulldogs, who maintained a 3.32 GPA during the year, finished runner-up twice to Oregon at the NCAA Championships. Georgia’s crowning moment happened at the NCAA DI Outdoor Championships where it nearly upset the Ducks and only scored field points in the process.
All-Academic Teams
All told, 360 NCAA Division I teams were honored for their academics by the USTFCCCA.
Breaking it down further, 218 of those were women’s teams compared to 142 men’s programs.
The highest cumulative GPA of any team belonged to the University of San Francisco for the second consecutive year. The Dons maintained a 3.80 GPA under head coach Helen Lehman-Winters.
When it comes to men’s teams, the University of New Mexico held down the top spot with a cumulative GPA of 3.53. George Washington University wasn’t too far behind at 3.52.
