2017 NCAA DIII Cross Country Region Rankings – Week 5
NEW ORLEANS – We’re quickly approaching the postseason in NCAA Division III Cross Country and the Regional Rankings are reflecting that.
With very little happening across the nation last weekend in advance of the Pre-National Invitational this weekend, very little changed in the most recent rankings released Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
REGIONAL RANKINGS – SUMMARY PDF
REGIONAL RANKINGS – 2017 Week By Week
REGIONAL RANKINGS – All-Time Week By Week
For those who don’t know or need a refresher, the USTFCCCA Regional Rankings are determined subjectively by a single member coach in each of the eight respective regions. The regional representative is tasked with weighing returning teams’ strength with current season results (if applicable) in determining team finishing order at the upcoming NCAA Division III Regional Cross Country Championships.
This year the NCAA Regional Championships will be held on Saturday, November 11.
Atlantic Region
You’re still looking at the same top-5 in the men’s rankings with No. 1 SUNY Geneseo, No. 2 RPI, No. 3 Rowan, No. 4 St. Lawrence and No. 5 NYU. The Violets strengthened their spot at No. 5 this past weekend with a win at the Highlander Atlantic Region Preview.
SUNY Geneseo is still No. 1 in the women’s rankings, followed by No. 2 RPI and No. 3 TCNJ. St. Lawrence leapfrogged Ithaca into the No. 4 spot and the Bombers fell to No. 5. The Saints ran well at their own invitational and look to be back at full strength.
Central Region
Nothing changed in the men’s rankings as it is Loras at No. 1, Wartburg at No. 2, Nebraska Wesleyan at No. 3, St. Olaf at No. 4 and Cornell College at No. 5.
The women’s rankings went untouched as well with Carleton, St. Olaf, Wartburg, Nebraska Wesleyan and St. Thomas (Minn.) in order from No. 1 to No. 5.
Great Lakes Region
The men’s rankings are identical from Week 4 as Calvin, Ohio Northern, Albion, Case Western Reserve and Otterbein are No. 1 through No. 5.
The women’s rankings still have Hope at No. 1, Calvin at No. 2, Otterbein at No. 3, Kenyon at No. 4 and Oberlin at No. 5.
Mideast Region
There is a new No. 2 team in the men’s rankings as Carnegie Mellon leapfrogged Johns Hopkins thanks to its effort at the Paul Short Run two weeks ago. The Tartans sit behind No. 1 Haverford, in front of the third-ranked Blue Jays, who are in front of No. 4 Dickinson and Messiah.
None of the top-4 teams in the women’s rankings competed this past weekend: No. 1 Johns Hopkins, No. 2. Dickinson, No. 3 Elizabethtown or No. 4 Haverford. Fifth-ranked Carnegie Mellon did, though, and finished fifth at its own invitational.
Midwest Region
All is quiet in the men’s rankings as North Central (Ill.) remains No. 1, UW-La Crosse is No. 2, Washington (Mo.) is No. 3, UW-Eau Claire is No. 4 and UW-Stout is No. 5.
The top-5 of the women’s rankings didn’t change either as Washington (Mo.) is No. 1, followed by Chicago at No. 2, UW-Eau Claire at No. 3, UW-La Crosse at No. 4 and Wheaton (Ill.) at No. 5.
New England Region
Amherst is No. 1 once again in the men’s rankings followed by No. 2 MIT, No. 3 Williams, No. 4 Middlebury and No. 5 Bates.
MIT is still No. 1 in the women’s rankings, trailed by No. 2 Williams, No. 3 Middlebury, No. 4 Bates and No. 5 Tufts.
South/Southeast Region
Christopher Newport is No. 1 in the men’s rankings once again and has No. 2 Rhodes hot on its heels. Emory is No. 3, Washington and Lee is No. 4 and Trinity (Texas) is No. 5.
Emory is No. 1 in the women’s rankings, followed by No. 2 Trinity (Texas), No. 3 Centre, No. 4 Lynchburg and No. 5 Washington and Lee.
West Region
The top-3 in the men’s rankings remains the same with Pomona-Pitzer, Occidental and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in order. Pacific Lutheran moved up to No. 4 and Willamette is now No. 5 as Lewis & Clark dropped two spots.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps is No. 1 in the women’s rankings, followed by No. 2 Whitworth, No. 3 Linfield, No. 4 Occidental and No. 5 Puget Sound.
