2018 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Rankings – Week 1
NEW ORLEANS – Familiar faces headline the first NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Team Rankings of the 2018 season.
The debut index that was released Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has Indiana Tech’s men and women ranked No. 1 together for the third time in program history. Previously, the Warrior men and women were both ranked No. 1 in 2015 and 2016.

A lot will change between now and May 24-26 when the 2018 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
Men’s Story
Balance propelled Indiana Tech to the top of the rankings. The Warriors have athletes ranked in the top-10 of 10 different events and three relay teams billed in the top-5. Two of those marks hit the top of the charts with Malik Stuart in the shot put (17.62m/57-9¾) and the 4×100 relay.
Wiley (Texas) starts the season ranked second, which matches a program high. The Wildcats have athletes ranked in the top-10 of five individual events and three relays. Three athletes are ranked No. 1 in their respective events: Rajay Hamilton in the 400, Marbeq Edgar in the 800 and Lafranz Campbell in the 110 hurdles.
British Columbia, the top-ranked team in Week 1 last year, sits third. The Thunderbirds are led by Roan Allen and Kieran Lumb so far this season as they are No. 2 in the javelin and 1500, respectively.
Westmont (Calif.) comes in at a program-high No. 4 and Central Christian (Kan.), which has never been ranked higher than 100th, rounds out the top-5 with a program-high No. 5.
Women’s Story
This is the fifth consecutive year that Indiana Tech has been ranked No. 1 in Week 1. In fact, the Warriors have never been ranked lower than third in the history of the index, which dates back to 2014. Indiana Tech should be able to maintain that distinction thanks to an absolute gluttony of wealth with top-10 marks in 10 individual events and/or relays.
Wiley (Texas) sits a distant second, even though it has five top-ranked entities. Natasha Poleon is No. 1 in both the 100 and 200, Renae Dennie is No. 1 in the 110 hurdles, Taishia Pryce is No. 1 in the long jump and the 4×400 relay is No. 1 as well.
Friends (Kan.) hit a program-high in Week 1 as it is ranked No. 3. The Falcons are paced by Chelsea Baker, who is a perennial favorite in the heptathlon as well as those seven events if she broke them down individually. Baker is No. 1 in the multi, high jump and ranked No. 2 in the 100 hurdles.
Wayland Baptist (Texas) is ranked fourth to begin the season and British Columbia holds a slim lead over Hastings (Neb.) for the fifth spot.
