The 2018 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held May 24-16 in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
Men’s Story
Indiana Tech and Wiley (Texas) sit No. 1 and No. 2 for the second week in a row. The Warriors and Wildcats don’t appear to be in any danger of losing those spots as they’re the only two teams with more than 300 points in the rankings.
The rest of the top-5 was mixed up as Westmont (Calif.) jumped one spot to No. 3, while Hastings (Neb.) and Doane (Neb.) both climbed three spots to No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.
Westmont (Calif.) received a boost from three athletes: Anthony Cota, Michael Oldach and Seth Wilmoth. Cota is now ranked fifth nationally in the high jump. Oldach is ranked fifth in the 1500, in addition to his No. 5 ranking in the 5000. Wilmoth improved his season best mark to 4.70m (15-5) in the pole vault to nab that fifth spot as well.
Hastings (Neb.) saw Alex Wellington step up in a big way this past weekend. Wellington recorded the second best shot put mark of the season and the fifth best hammer mark. He is also ranked seventh in the discus, so the Broncos are hoping for major points from him come May.
Doane (Neb.) pushed up thanks to Shingai Kusena and Henry Arnold in the triple jump. Kusena is now ranked third nationally, while Arnold moved up to sixth.
Women’s Story
Indiana Tech is still No. 1, but don’t look now: The Warriors have company.
Southern-New Orleans (La.) soared 33 spots between Week 1 and Week 2. The Knights went from No. 35 to No. 2 following a superb weekend. Argyana Bolton doubled down for SUNO this past weekend as she recorded nation-leading marks in the 100 and 200. Bolton is joined by Shadae Hylton (400) and Kimona Smikle (400 hurdles) atop the national leaderboard in their respective events.
Hastings (Neb.) improved three spots from No. 6 to No. 3. The Broncos received a top-10 national mark this past weekend from Shantinique Cunningham in the long jump, Reganne Markle in the long jump, Sara Olsen in the shot put and Kelbie Lyon in the hammer throw.
Wiley (Texas) and Friends (Kan.) both fell two spots to No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.
New additions to the women’s top-25 include William Carey (Miss.) and Northwest (Wash.) in addition to the aforementioned Knights.
