2019 NJCAA DIII Outdoor Track & Field Rating Index – Week 3
NEW ORLEANS – There is less than one month remaining until the 2019 NJCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Utica, New York.
One glance at the calendar reveals that the biggest meet of the season will take place between May 9 and May 11 on the campus of Mohawk Valley Community College.
Let’s take a peek at what transpired in the most recent edition of the NJCAA Division III National Rating Index that was released Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

There were no changes to the top-5 of the Men’s National Rating Index.
Harper (Ill.) is still the No. 1 team in all the land, while Triton (Ill.) follows close behind in second. Rowan-Gloucester (N.J.) sits third, while Hudson Valley (N.Y.) and Suffolk County (N.Y.) round out the top-5 once again.
The Hawks actually strengthened their hold on the top spot following this past weekend’s action. Harper (Ill.) received strong marks from Sean Sanaghan, Shujaat Sultan and Tony Espinoza, who are now ranked third, fourth and fifth nationally, respectively in the 800, and Jacob Melgosa and Nathan Lim, who are now ranked No.2 and No. 3 nationally in the 5000.
Further down in the Men’s National Rating Index, Bergen (N.J.) surged five spots between Week 2 and Week 3. The Bulldogs, who are now ranked eighth, saw Bryan Coccobo and Rey Miller move up to No. 2 and No. 3 on the Descending Order List in the decathlon and Lawrence Ortiz take over the No. 3 spot in the javelin.

There were a few changes to the top-5 of the Women’s National Rating Index.
Suffolk County (N.Y.) and Harper (Ill.) remained No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, while Kingsborough (N.Y.) jumped two spots between Week 2 and Week 3. Rowan-Gloucester (N.J.) and Union County (N.J.) each fell one spot to correspond with the Wave’s leap.
The Sharks continue to dominate the Descending Order List. Nikianne Otto (pole vault) and Erica Martinez (heptathlon) both moved up to the top spot nationally in their respective events, which gives Suffolk County (N.Y.) 21 top-5 marks on the national chart.
Kingsborough (N.Y.), the defending national champion, received three national-leading efforts from Jeanne-Marie Johnson and Nyeira Gordon. Johnson is now the top-ranked woman in the 100 and 200, while Gordon holds down the top spot in the 100H. Gordon is also ranked second nationally in both the 200 and the 400H.
