

2022 NJCAA Men’s Indoor Track & Field Rating Index – Week 4
NEW ORLEANS – For the first time all season, the top-5 positions remained the same as the Week 4 NJCAA Men’s Indoor Track & Field National Track & Field Ratings Index (TFRI) was released Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The TFRI serves as an objective means to compare programs solely of current marks from the 2022 indoor track & field season.

South Plains (Texas) opened its lead in the ratings to the largest it has been all year – some 143 points. The Texans also increased their number of nation-leading events from five to six while maintaining the highest number of marks in the top-10 (24) and top-5 (13). Kimar Farquharson (1:17.65) and Chris Robinson (1:17.79) lead a 1-2-5 trio of Texans in the 600 while adding a high ranking in a second event: Robinson is No. 2 in the 400 at 47.22; Farquharson No. 3 in the 800 at 1:51.33. Chevonne Hall took over the national lead this weekend in the 800 at 1:50.57. Two SPC athletes maintained nation-leading status while improving their seasonal bests – current National Athlete of the Week Kudakwashe Chadenga in the high jump (2.22m/7-3¼) and Thomas Nieto in the pole vault (5.06m/16-7¼). The Texans also lead the lists in the 4×400 (3:07.88) and distance medley (9:51.67) relays. Also rating high are Justin Guy in the 60 hurdles (No. 2 at 7.91), Nelvin Appiah-Konadu in the heptathlon (No. 3 at 4717) and Davyon Williams, who completes a 1-3 SPC combination in the high jump at 2.09m/6-10¼.
No. 2 Iowa Western CC has 15 top-10 marks. The Reivers are led by Yonas Mogos, who is No. 2 in the 1000 (2:25.60), No. 5 in the mile (4:10.03) and anchors the country’s No. 2 distance medley relay team (9:59.41).
Indian Hills (Iowa) CC is No. 3 and has the second-highest total of top-10 efforts with 16. The Warriors lead the 4×800 relay list at 7:40.51 with a group that includes Rivaldo Marshall, who is highly ranked in three individual events – No. 3 in the 600 (1:18.56) and 1000 (2:27.92) along with No. 4 in the 800 (1:51.53). Woyn Chatman moved up to No. 3 in the 400 at 47.47.
Iowa Central CC is No. 4 and has eight top-10 marks – all but two in the top-5 as well. National triple jump leader Martin Lamou (16.33m/53-7) leads a 1-3 combo in that event with Roman Kuleshov (15.41m/50-6¾). The Tritons also have the No. 2 heptathlete in Aries Scott (4855) and the No. 2-rated 4×800 team (7:45.14).
No. 5 Butler (Kan.) CC maintained its eight top-5 marks after a light weekend of competition. Caleb Jackson leads the nation in the 60 at 6.58, while two Grizzlies follow in Morgan Jamison (No. 4 at 6.67) and Jerod Elcock (No. 5 at 6.71). Jamison is also No. 4 in the 400 (47.50), and Joe Williams adds more sprint presence with a No. 3 in the 200 (21.23).
Completing the top-10 teams in the national TFRI are No. 6 Barton (Kan.) CC, No. 7 New Mexico JC, No. 8 Coffeyville (Kan.) CC, No. 9 Monroe-New Rochelle (N.Y.) and No. 10 Cloud County (Kan.) CC. It’s the first appearance of the year in the top-10 for Monroe.
Just two weeks away is the NJCAA Indoor Championships, scheduled for March 4-5 at Pittsburg State’s Robert W. Plaster Center in Pittsburg, Kansas.
