Cross Country Polls & Rankings
Odessa (Texas) continues as a unanimous No. 1. The Wranglers were the only JUCO team in the NCAA DI-heavy Cowboy Jamboree, with Milicent Wafula again leading the team with a 20th-place finish in 21:03.8 for 6k.
No. 2 Iowa Western CC also tangled with four-year programs at the Gans Creek Classic, with Juliana Sakat earning her second M-F Athletic National Athlete of the Week award after taking fourth place in 20:21.5 for 6k.
No. 3 is New Mexico JC was tops at their own Dr. Steve McCleery Invitational with Yiddiya Bifa’s 39.5-second individual victory in 17:43.2 leading a 1-3-4 T-Bird finish. It was the second-straight win for Bifa, who opened the season at the Lori Fitzgerald Memorial in 17:32.9 for 5k.
Nos. 4 and 5 flip-flopped for a second-straight poll with Southern Idaho now back ahead of Crowder (Mo.). Interestingly, those same teams finished fourth and fifth (in that order) in last year’s national championships. Both were idle after being the top two-year program near home a week earlier – the Golden Eagles taking third in a 46-48-50 finish at the Northwest Nazarene Invitational, while the Roughriders were seventh in the Missouri Southern Stampede. Edith Neslen continues as Southern Idaho’s top runner with Vivian Kiprono doing likewise for Crowder.
Completing the top-10 are No. 6 Snow (Utah), No. 7 El Paso (Texas) CC, No. 8 Ranger (Texas), No. 9 Central Arizona and No. 10 Iowa Central CC.
