Is Washington Mile U? People are asking after the Huskies put seven athletes under the four-minute barrier this past weekend at the UW Invite. Those efforts propelled Washington to the top of the National Rating Index in Week 2. Joe Waksom (No. 1, 3:51.90), Brian Fay (No. 2, 3:52.03), Nathan Green (No. 3, 3:52.76), Kieran Lumb (No. 4, 3:53.83) and Luke Houser (No. 9, 3:55.98) all rank among the top-10 nationally with Waksom, Fay, Green and Lumb in the top-5. Not to be outdone, Cass Elliott is now ranked fourth nationally in the 800 meters at 1:47.22. This is the first time in program history the the Huskies have been ranked No. 1 during the indoor season. Washington’s previous high-water mark was No. 2 in 2008.

Texas Tech held steady at No. 2 and added or improved five national top-10 marks this past weekend. The Red Raiders, hosting the Texas Tech Open & Multi, saw Omaymuyowi Erhire and Zach Bradford move up to No. 2 on the Descending Order List in the high jump (2.33m/7-3¼) and pole vault (5.76m/18-10¾), respectively.

Arkansas rocketed into the top-5 at No. 3 based on their results at the Razorback Invitational. The Razorbacks added or improved five national top-10 marks, including a national-leading effort by Christopher Bailey in the 400 meters of 45.09. Carey McLeod made his debut in an Arkansas uniform and soared 8.09m (26-6½) in the long jump to move up to No. 2 nationally.

Tennessee received five national top-10 efforts this past weekend, including a national leader from Dylan Jacobs in the 5000 meters at 13:11.01. Emmanuel Bynum ranks among the top-6 athletes nationally in both the 400 (No. 3, 46.05) and 200 (No. 6, 20.69).

Georgia finds itself in the top-5 once again after an impressive weekend from Kyle Garland and Matthew Boling. Garland amassed the second-best heptathlon total in collegiate history with 6415 points at the Texas Tech Open & Multi, while Boling sprinted his way to No. 2 on the 200-meter chart at 20.49 and helped out the fourth-ranked 4×400 relay at 3:04.18.

Here are the rest of the top-10 teams in Week 2: No. 6 Nebraska, No. 7 Florida, No. 8 Texas, No. 9 Oklahoma State and No. 10 Alabama.

Mark your calendars for March 10-11, as that’s when the 2023 NCAA DI Indoor Track & Field Championships will be held at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
