NJCAA DIII XC Regional Athletes & Coaches of the Year For 2016 Season

NEW ORLEANS — The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the winners of regional awards in National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III Cross Country on Thursday.

The 2016 NJCAA Division III Cross Country Championships will be held this weekend in Canadaigua, New York on November 12.

USTFCCCA NJCAA DIVISION III REGION AWARD WINNERS

MEN’S ATHLETES OF THE YEAR

CENTRAL REGION – Cody Null, Columbus State CC

Null, a freshman from Dublin, Ohio, finished runner-up in the NJCAA Region XII race with a career-best 8k time of 28:10. 

EAST REGION – Corey Young, Howard CC

Young, a sophomore from Silver Spring, Maryland, won the NJCAA Region XX title in 29:49. 

NORTHEAST REGION – Jason Linendoll, Adirondack CC

Linendoll won the NJCAA Region III individual title.

MEN’S COACHES OF THE YEAR

CENTRAL REGION – Jim Macnider, Harper JC

Macnider, in his fifth year leading Harper’s cross country program, led his team to NJCAA Region IV title 47-72 over nearest finisher DuPage.

EAST REGION – Deana Dedovitch, Bergen

Dedovitch led her team to the NJCAA Region XIX title for the second-straight year. 

NORTHEAST REGION – Robin Wheeless, Onondaga CC

Wheeless, coach at Onondaga since 2010, led his team to the NJCAA Region III title. All five scorers for the team finish in the top 15 of the region.

WOMEN’S ATHLETES OF THE YEAR

CENTRAL REGION – Ali Gutt, Harper JC

Gutt, a sophomore from Schaumburg, Ill., won the NJCAA Region IV title in 19:40.

EAST REGION – Justine Conca, Bergen

Conca, a freshman from Nutley, N.J., won the NJCAA Region XIX individual title in 19:47.

NORTHEAST REGION – Chyanna Bernier, Herkimer County

Bernier, a freshman from Ilion, N.Y., won the NJCAA Region III individual title in 20:32.

WOMEN’S COACHES OF THE YEAR

CENTRAL REGION – Dustin Iacovone, Columbus State CC

Team won the NJCAA Region XII title with three finishers in the race’s top ten.

EAST REGION – Jim Griffiths, Anne Arundel

Griffith’s team won the NJCAA Region XX Division III title with 30 points.

NORTHEAST REGION – Joe Plutz, FIT

Plutz’s team won the NJCAA Region XV title with 29 points.
