2023 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field All-America
NEW ORLEANS – All-America honors for the 2023 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field season were announced on Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Athletes of member institutions who finished in the top-8 of their respective individual events and relays at the 2023 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships this past weekend in Virginia Beach, Virginia, took home First-Team All-America honors. Those who placed ninth through 12th individually or on a relay team that finished ninth or 10th were named Second-Team All-America.
Pittsburg State (literally) ran away with the men’s team title, while Adams State held off a strong challenge from Minnesota State for the women’s crown.
No team had more First-Team All-America honors than the champion Gorillas, regardless of gender. By the end of the proceedings in the Old Dominion, Pittsburg State athletes amassed 15 top-8 finishes as they scored 86 points, more than double that of runner-up Adams State, which finished nearly double that of third-place Grand Valley State. Speaking of the Lakers, they had the second-most First-Team All-America selections among men’s teams with 11.
A close battle for the women’s team title resulted in three teams sharing the most First-Team All-America honors with 11: champion Adams State, runner-up Minnesota State and third-place West Texas A&M. The Grizzlies did all of their work in distance events, scoring all of their points in every event from the DMR up to the 5000 meters. The Lady Buffs and the Mavericks were more balanced, seeing top-8 athletes in eight different events.
Seven different athletes had three or more First-Team All-America honors, but if you up that number to include Second-Team All-America, Makayla Jackson of Minnesota State is the only athlete with four. Twelve athletes hauled in three or more when combining both sets of honors.
