2024 NJCAA Men’s Indoor Track & Field Rating Index – Week 5
NEW ORLEANS – Indian Hills (Iowa) CC is No. 1 for a fifth straight week in the Week 5 (pre-championships) edition of the NJCAA Men’s Indoor National Track & Field Rating Index (TFRI), as released Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
National TFRI is presented by AthleticNET. Only marks from the current season are used in this objective ranking.
With almost all regular season action completed, attention now shifts to the 2024 NJCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, scheduled for March 1-2 at the Alachua County Events Center in Gainesville, Florida.

Indian Hills (Iowa) CC has been making history all season with their first No. 1 rankings in program history. The Warriors appear ready for more history as their previous best at the NJCAA Indoor Championships is seventh from last year. Indian Hills has 26 top-10 marks, with eight of those in the top-2, led by five list leaders: Triston Miller in the 60-meter hurdles (7.86), Tyrice Taylor in the 600 (1:17.67), Keveroy Venson in the 1000 (2:25.30), Tate Joens in the weight throw (18.56m/60-10¾) and the distance medley relay (9:43.60).
The Hawkeye State claims another high-ranking program in No. 2 Iowa Western CC. The Reivers – fresh off a victory last weekend in the Region 11 Championships – have been No. 2 in the national TFRI all season, closing the gap points-wise to Indian Hills each week. Iowa Western’s best finish at the NJCAA Indoor Championships is third, achieved in each of the last two years. The Reivers have 22 top-10 marks with six of those ranking No. 2, led by a pair from Geoffry Ronoh – 3000 in 8:00.88 and 5000 in 13:49.47 – who also anchored their DMR squad that clocked 9:46.12.
Moving up a spot to No. 3 is defending co-champion South Plains (Texas). The Texans – who won the title outright the previous two years – have 18 top-10 marks, including two national leaders in Isaiah Patrick in the 60 hurdles (7.86) and Andrew Stone in the long jump (7.71m/25-3½).
Defending co-champ New Mexico JC drops a notch to No. 4. The T-Birds have 15 top-10 marks, with three leading the nation: Tapiwanashe Makarawu in the 200 (20.36), Khybah Dawson in the long jump (7.71m/25-3½) and the 4×400 relay team (3:07.80).
Barton (Kan.) CC remains No. 5 after taking runner-up honors in the Region 6 Championships last weekend. The Cougars – runner-up in four of the last six NJCAA Indoor Championships – have won this meet 10 times, most recently in 2000. They have 12 top-10 marks, with two national leaders: Trevon Hamer in the triple jump (15.70m/51-6¼) and Christopher Young in the shot put (18.67m/61-3).
Rounding out the top-10 teams in the national TFRI are No. 6 Salt Lake (Utah) CC, No. 7 Iowa Central CC, No. 8 Pima (Ariz.) CC, No. 9 Butler (Kan.) CC and No. 10 Coffeyville (Kan.) CC. The No. 9 Grizzlies were the top-20’s biggest mover, climbing up five positions.
