Cross Country Polls & Rankings
If it wasn’t clear already, it should be now: No. 1 Adams State isn’t going anywhere. The Grizzlies absolutely dominated the 31st annual Joe I. Vigil Open, finishing 1-2-3-5-7 for a grand total of 18 points. As if the electorate needed any more evidence, this was against No. 5 CSU Pueblo. Not to be left out of the conversation is No. 2 Grand Valley State which almost took down Michigan State at its own Spartan Invitational, settling for second by just three points. However, the Lakers were missing some heavy hitters from their lineup, meaning this may be just a preview of what’s to come.
No. 3 Western Colorado mirrored Adams State to the best of their ability, cleaning house at their home meet with a 1-2-3-5-6-7 finish. The Mountaineers have their eyes ahead to Fayetteville, Arkansas, where they will have an opportunity to flash some colors at the Chile Pepper Festival. At the same time, Augustana (S.D.) averaged 17:36 across 5k at the Augustana XC Twilight Meet to dig further into the No. 4 spot. The Vikings held their own against Nebraska and South Dakota State, but fell in the end to the two DI programs.
U-Mary posted the largest increase in stock thus far, jumping from No. 17 to No. 14 thanks to their impressive display at the Marauders Invite. No. 12 Colo. School of Mines, No. 19 Fort Lewis, and No. 24 CUI also saw boosts this week.
Mark your calendars for Saturday, November 23, because that’s when the 2024 NCAA DII Cross Country Championships will be held at the Arcade Creek Cross Country Course in Sacramento, California.
