Cross Country Polls & Rankings
In three days time, No. 1 Wingate will be put to the test at the Paul Short Invitational. A site known for its fast times will have the Bulldogs drooling as they face off against a field chock full of ranked competition. A few hundred miles south, No. 3 West Texas A&M is in Louisville, Kentucky, for the Live in Lou Classic. The Buffs will have to dig in as No. 8 East Central (Okla.) looks to capitalize on a true head-to-head matchup. Moving further west, No. 5 Grand Valley State and No. 6 Adams State will toe the line at the Joe Piane Invitational. Beyond the storied rivalry, the Lakers and Grizzlies will have their hands full with NCAA DI powerhouses Northern Arizona and Notre Dame in attendance.
No. 4 Western Colorado opted to break the ice at the Chile Pepper Invitational this past weekend. The Mountaineers walked away as the top NCAA DII program behind just host Arkansas, and were awarded justly, surging four spots up the polls. No. 10 CSU-Pueblo shared in the spoils, rising four slots themselves after a near upset over East Central (Okla.) in Fayetteville. The Thunderwolves struck swiftly, boasting a 36 second spread, but fell 19 points short of the Tigers in the end.
Here are the rest of the top-10 teams in Week 1: No. 6 Adams State, No. 7 Chico State, No. 8 East Central (Okla.), No. 9 Western Washington and tied at No. 10 are CSU-Pueblo/Lewis.
Mark your calendars for Saturday, November 23, because that’s when the 2024 NCAA DII Cross Country Championships will be held at the Arcade Creek Cross Country Course in Sacramento, California.
