2023 NCAA DII Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Rating Index – Week 5
NEW ORLEANS – Here is Week 5 of the NCAA Division II Men’s Outdoor Track & Field National TFRI, as released on Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Only marks from the current season are being used, which gives an objective look at those teams who are looking to contend as we head into the beginning of this outdoor season.

Pittsburg State is the only team in the top-10 to remain static from last week. They feature a pair of national leaders: Cordell Tinch in the 110-meter hurdles (13.22w) and Henry Kiner in the triple jump (16.41mw/53-10¼). The Gorillas added a pair of top relays, a No. 3 4×100 team (39.76), and a No. 4 4×400 team (3:09.68). They have six additional top-5 performances, including No. 3 efforts from Kiner in the long jump (7.70mw/25-3¾), Tinch in the high jump (2.15m/7-0½), Caleb Calvin in javelin (73.02m/239-7), and Hunter Jones in the decathlon (7277).
Grand Valley State jumps one spot to No. 2 on the Week 5 TFRI. The Lakers have a pair of top-ranked athletes this week: Eli Kosiba in the high jump (2.25m/7-4½), and Myles Kerner in the shot put (19.59m/64-3¼). They added a pair of No. 2 marks in Caleb Futter’s 8:42.20 effort in the steeplechase and Jacob Urban’s 65.76m (215-9) mark in the hammer throw. Jonathan Rankins-James’ 2.15m (7-0 ½) in the high jump, Fallou Gaye’s 50.95 in the 400 hurdles, and Matt Thomas’ 18.59m (61-0) rounds out the marks for the Lakers in the top-5 of the nation.
West Texas A&M drops one spot to No. 3 in Week 5 of the TFRI. The Buffs feature a nation-leading 4×100 relay (38.92), and a No. 4 4×400 (3:09.68). They added five additional top-5 individual performances, including Isaac Botsio, No. 2 in the 100 meters (10.09c), and Quinton Sansing, No. 3 in the 400 meter (46.01c). Joseph Manu, a leg on their 4×100, adds a national No. 3 performance in the 100 meters (10.11c), while Jeremiah Lauzon holds down No. 4 in the 200 meter (20.69c). Butare Rugenerwa holds down a pair of top-10 performances in the middle-distance events: a No. 4 spot in the 800 meters (1:48.19) and a No. 9 spot in the 1500 meter (3:45.04).
Colorado School of Mines soared into the top-10 this week, taking No. 4 on the TFRI. They’re led by a No. 1 5000-meter performance from Dillon Powell (13:30.93), and No. 2 performances from both Luke Julian in the 1500-meter (3:41.84) and Hunter Potrykus in pole vault (5.36mA/17-7). Powell backs up his nation-leading performance with a No. 6 effort in the 10,000 meters (29:03.26c), and is joined by teammates Duncan Fuehne (29:03.27c), Paul Knight (29:03.69c), Steven Goldy (29:08.38c), and Chris Cathcart (9:14.75c) in the 7th through 10th best performances in the nation.
Adams State drops one spot to No. 5 on the Week 5 TFRI. They feature a pair of national leaders: Miguel Coca in the 1500 meters (3:40.96c) and Cameron Allan in the 10,000 meters (28:37.09). Coca also holds the No. 3 position in the 5000 meters (13:36.51) and is joined among the top echelons of that event by teammate No. 5 Awet Beraki (13:50.64), who is also the national No. 2 in the 10,000 meters (28:42.09). Papay Glaywulu rounds out the members of the top-5 for Adams State with a No. 2 mark of 15.89mw (52-1¾) in the triple jump.

The 2023 NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the CSU Pueblo ThunderBowl in Pueblo, Colorado from May 25-27 is quickly coming upon us, as teams begin to make their final preparations with a month to go.
