2018 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Rankings – Week 6

NEW ORLEANS – Don’t think that just because the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships are right around the corner that top-ranked teams are resting on their laurels.

There were a few changes to the top-25s of the NAIA Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field National Team Rankings released Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The 2018 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held May 24-26 in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

Men’s Story

The top-4 remained the same as Indiana Tech, Wiley (Texas), Doane (Neb.) and Wayland Baptist (Texas) all sit in order. Throughout the season so far, only the Warriors and Wildcats topped the 300-point barrier, but now the Tigers join the fray with 300.01.

Tennessee Wesleyan joined the top-5 for the first time this season. The Bulldogs jumped from No. 9 to No. 5 thanks to the efforts of their sprinters. Dillan Elkins is now ranked third in the nation in the 400, while Josh Parson sits fourth on the chart for the 100. Both of those athletes had a hand in the second-ranked 4×100 relay to date as well.

New additions to the men’s top-25 included Friends (Kan.), Marian (Ind.) and Oklahoma City.

Women’s Story

Nothing changed in the top-4 of the women’s rankings as Wayland Baptist sits No. 1 and is followed by Indiana Tech, Southern-New Orleans (La.) and Hastings (Neb.).

The biggest change in the top-10 came in at No. 5, where Concordia (Neb.) improved its billing two spots from Week 5 to Week 6. The Bulldogs barked up the rankings thanks to a pair of huge throws by Johanna Ragland this past weekend. Ragland is now ranked in the top-10 of both the shot put and hammer, which gives Concordia (Neb.) nine top-10 throwing marks this season, including four in the top-5.

New additions to the women’s top-25 included Dordt (Iowa), Point Park (Pa.) and SCAD Atlanta (Ga.).
