

Wisconsin Takes Title as Cross Country Scholar Team of the Year
NEW ORLEANS – The Badgers of the University of Wisconsin are the USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Men’s Scholar Team of the Year for the 2011 cross country season as announced Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Wisconsin won their first NCAA Cross Country Championship title since 2005 this fall.
Scholar Teams of the year are determined from among those who earned All-Academic status and placed highest as a team at the most recent NCAA Championships.

Cross Country Men’s Scholar Team of the Year – University of Wisconsin
Wisconsin, coached by Mick Byrne, has a cumulative team GPA of 3.08 through the 2011 fall semester.
The Badgers won their fifth NCAA men’s cross country title of all-time this fall, scoring 97 points to finish ahead of runner-up and two-time defending champion Oklahoma State (139).
USTFCCCA All-Americans Ryan Collins, Reed Connor, and Elliot Krause were honored last week as All-Academic individuals for the 2011 season.
Wisconsin also won the NCAA Great Lakes title for the tenth-straight year this season. Wisconsin won with 50 points, placing their five scorers in an 8-9-10-11-12 bunch to nearest challenger Indiana’s 70. Wisconsin also won their 13th-straight Big Ten title this fall.

147 Teams Earn All-Academic Status
In addition to the Scholar Team of the Year, the USTFCCCA also announced those men’s teams who earned 2011 Division I All-Academic Cross Country status.
A total of 147 institutions represent 30 conferences that compose the group. The Big East Conference had the most squads make the list with 11. The Big 12 followed with eight.
Chattanooga reported the highest cumulative team GPA in the country through the fall 2011 semester at 3.81. Creighton followed at 3.72.
Seven of the top ten finishing teams at the 2011 NCAA Cross Country Championships earned All-Academic status. Of the 31 teams that participated in the national meet, 20 of those earned All-Academic status.
To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have started at least five runners at their respective NCAA regional championship.
