

Division II Champ Adams State Named 2012 Cross Country Men’s Scholar Team of the Year
NEW ORLEANS – The Grizzlies of Adams State University are the USTFCCCA NCAA Division II Men’s Scholar Team of the Year for the 2012 cross country season as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Adams State won the NCAA Cross Country Championship title this fall – their fourth in five years.
Scholar Teams of the year are determined from among those who earned All-Academic status and placed highest as a team at the most recent NCAA Championships.

Cross Country Men’s Scholar Team of the Year – Adams State University
The Grizzlies, coached by DII National Men’s Coach of the Year Damon Martin, have earned a cumulative 3.046 team grade point average through the 2012 fall semester.
Adams State captured not only its fourth title in the past five years, but also its ninth in program history – most in DII history – and did so in dominating fashion. Led by three of the race’s top four individual finishers in runner-up sophomore Kevin Batt, sophomore Tabor Stevens (third) and sophomore Matthew Daniels (fourth), the Grizzlies scored just 34 points and defeated runner-up Colorado mines by 68 points.
Each of Adams State’s seven runners earned USTFCCCA All-America honors. In addition to Batt, Stevens and Daniels, senior David Sanchez (12th), sophomore John Luterbach (15th), senior Andrew Roberts (25th) and junior Jovanny Godinez also earned the distinction.

88 Teams Earn All-Academic Status
In addition to the Scholar Team of the Year, the USTFCCCA also announced those Men’s teams who earned 2012 Division II All-Academic Cross Country status.
A total of 88 institutions represent 21 conferences that compose the group. The NSIC led the way with 10 teams earning All-Academic status while GLIAC followed on the conference honor roll with nine.
Sioux Falls reported the highest cumulative team GPA in the country for all men’s teams in all three NCAA divisions through the fall 2012 semester at 3.732. Truman State followed at 3.61.
Eight of the top ten finishing teams at the 2012 NCAA Cross Country Championships earned All-Academic status. Of the 32 teams that participated in the national meet, 18 of those earned All-Academic status.
To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have compiled a team score at their respective NCAA regional championship.
