Three teams received first-place votes, but the Buffaloes had the most with 14. Milligan – a top-5 program over the last three years at the NAIA National Championships – was idle last week.
Rising to No. 2 is Taylor (Ind.) in receiving five first-place votes. The Trojans were an impressive runner-up in Gans Creek Classic Open division on the same course that this year’s NAIA National Championships will be contested. Freshman Jaynie Halterman won the individual race by 27.0 seconds as Taylor also had Noel VanderWall and Ahna Neideck among the top-9.
Dropping one spot to No. 3 is Saint Mary (Kan.), which also earned a first-place vote. The Spries were the top NAIA program in taking fourth in the Cowboy Jamboree this past weekend.
Also falling one notch is The Master’s (Calif.), now No. 4. The Mustangs were idle last week while preparing to host The Master’s Invitational this Saturday.
Remaining at No. 5 is Cumberlands (Ky.). The Patriots were just behind Taylor in finishing third in the Gans Creek Classic Open division.
Rounding out the top-10 are No. 6 defending champion College of Idaho, No. 7 Montreat (N.C.), No. 8 Dordt (Iowa), No. 9 Southern Oregon and No. 11 Grace (Ind.).
