2018 NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Rankings – Pre-Championships
NEW ORLEANS – The time is here.
Three days from now the 2018 NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships will get underway in Pittsburg, Kansas at the Robert W. Plaster Center.
Before that, though, it’s prudent to see what the final NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Team Rankings – released Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) have to say about the proceedings.

Men’s Story
Indiana Tech is the odds-on favorite to win yet another crown – and justifiably so. The Warriors have the most entries into the championships (24) and cover the most ground with them. Indiana Tech has nine entries in sprint/hurdles, two in the mid-distance, three in relays, eight in jumps and two in throws.
Wayland Baptist (Texas) and Doane (Neb.) are both tied for the second most entries into the championships with 18. The Pioneers are ranked second nationally thanks to more athletes ranked in the top-10 of their respective events than the third-ranked Tigers. Wayland Baptist (Texas) has 14 entries ranked in the top-10 of their respective events and eight in the top-3 compared to 11 and two from Doane (Neb.), respectively.
Despite only having eight entries into the championships, Hastings (Neb.) is ranked fourth in the pre-championship index. Six of the Broncos’ eight entries are ranked in the top-10 nationally with three of those coming in the top-3.
Bethel (Ind.) – with four entries to the championships that are all ranked in the top-3 in the nation – rounds out the top-5. The Pilots don’t have much breathing room, however, as the difference between them and seventh-ranked Central Christian (Kan.) is less than one point.
Women’s Story
Indiana Tech is stacked going into the championships this weekend.
The top-ranked Warriors have 32 entries ready to go in Pittsburg, Kansas, with 15 of them in the sprints/hurdles and another 12 in the jumps. Twenty of Indiana Tech’s entries rank in the top-10 nationally and eight of those fall in the top-3.
Wayland Baptist (Texas) and Friends (Kan.) are second and third in the rankings behind the Warriors. The Pioneers and Falcons both have 18 entries into the championships with eight of the former’s being ranked in the top-3 and four of the latter’s in the same realm.
Fifth-ranked Hastings (Neb.) will rely heavily on the strength of its field events. Fifteen of the Broncos’ 18 entries into the championships are in jumps and throws.
Seven other programs have double-digit entries into the championships, including fourth-ranked Southern-New Orleans (La.). Doane (Neb.) has the most out of any team not ranked in the top-5 with 16. The Tigers are ranked right outside the top-5 in sixth.
