If you didn’t know, the 2018 NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships will be held March 1-3 at the Robert W. Plaster Center in Pittsburg, Kansas.
Men’s Story
Indiana Tech remains the huge favorite to take home yet another indoor team title come March as Doug Edgar’s team has a 131.38-point lead over the rest of the field. The Warriors don’t seem to be slowing down as they added 8.24 points to their total from last week.
Don’t sleep on Wayland Baptist (Texas), though. The Pioneers soared 12 spots from Week 2 to come in at No. 2 this week. Wayland Baptist athletes notched six top-3 marks on the NAIA Descending Order List this past weekend including No. 1 spots in the 4×400 and DMR. This is the fourth time the Pioneers have been ranked No. 2 in program history.
Doane (Neb.), Cornerstone (Mich.) and Central Christian (Kan.) were all pushed down one spot as Wayland Baptist vaulted into the top-5.
Other big movers in the men’s index included Cumberlands (Ky.) (up 11 spots), Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) (up 15 spots) and Westmont (Calif.) (up 16 spots).
Women’s Story
The other four teams that trail top-ranked Indiana Tech look completely different in Week 3 than it did in Week 2 – that’s for sure.
Southern-New Orleans (La.) leapfrogged Friends (Kan.) into the No. 2 spot. The Lady Knights received a pair of strong performances in the 600 as Shantae Green and Kimona Smikle are now ranked No. 3 and No. 4 nationally.
Wayland Baptist (Texas) surged 15 spots between Week 2 and Week 3. The Pioneers are now ranked No. 4, compared to No. 19 last week. Wayland Baptist athletes tallied four top-5 marks last weekend, including a top mark in the DMR and third-best billing in the 200 and 3000.
Doane (Neb.) is back in the top-5 after a short respite outside of it. The Tigers were buoyed by the efforts of Claire Sintek and Shay Brown in the high jump.
