2021 NCAA DI Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Rating Index – Week 9
NEW ORLEANS – The NCAA postseason is finally upon us!
As the NCAA Division I East and West Preliminary Rounds are set to get underway on Wednesday in Jacksonville, Florida, and College Station, Texas, here is a look at what women’s teams are expected to make a run to a national title, according to the newest NCAA Division I Women’s Outdoor Track & Field National Rating Index that was released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Tuesday.

Top-ranked LSU will enter the postseason with athletes across 13 events and boast seven top-5 nationally ranked performances. Leading the way for the Tigers with No. 1 billings are Favour Ofili in the 200 (22.30w) and Tonea Marshall in the 100H (12.52). Adding No. 2 nationally-ranked performances are Symone Mason in the 100 (11.02) and Lisa Gunnarsson in the pole vault (4.50m/14-9). The Tigers also have the top-ranked 4×100 relay of 42.52.
Southern California improved one spot to sit at No. 2 and will rely heavily on their sprints and hurdles squad. The Women of Troy will be paced by Anna Cockrell, who is currently the fastest seasonal performer in the 400H at 54.77 and ranked No. 5 in the 100H. Twanisha Terry is ranked No. 2 nationally in the 100 (11.02w) and anchors the 4×100 relay (No. 2, 42.63).
Arkansas slipped one spot down to No. 3. The Razorbacks are led by the pole vault duo of Nastassja Campbell (No. 1, 4.54m/14-10 3/4) and Lauren Martinez (No. 3, 4.49m/14-8¾). Krissy Gear also adds a No. 2 performance in the 1500 (4:09.00), while the Razorbacks have the second-fastest 4×400 relay of the year (3:26.63).
Fourth-ranked Texas A&M held steady in Week 9. Athing Mu and Tyra Gittens will lead the Aggies with their national-leading performances. Mu is the top seed in the 400 (49.84) and carries the baton on the top-ranked 4×400 relay (3:26.17). Gittens holds the season’s best efforts in the heptathlon (6418) and high jump (1.95m/6-4¾). She is also entering the preliminary rounds with the second-best long jump (6.96m/22-10).
Rounding out our top-5 is Texas, after jumping one spot. Tara Davis leads the Longhorns with her collegiate record in the long jump of 7.14m/23-5¼) and her No. 2 billing in the 100H (12.61w). Other top performers for the Longhorns are Kynnedy Flannel in the 200 (No. 2, 22.47) and Kristine Blazevica in the heptathlon (No. 3, 5947).
Here are the rest of the top-10 teams in Week 9: No. 6 Georgia, No. 7 BYU, No. 8 Alabama, No. 9 Florida and No. 10 Oregon. The Cougars climbed nine spots from their No. 16 ranking a week ago and will enter the West Preliminary Round with two national-leading performances: Courtney Wayment in the steeplechase (9:31.37) and Whittni Orton in the 5000 (15:12.91).
The 2021 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held from June 9-12 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
