

2022 NJCAA DI Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Rating Index – Week 4
NEW ORLEANS – Even with a week off, South Plains (Texas) remains a strong No. 1 as the Week 4 edition of the 2022 NJCAA Division I Men’s Outdoor National Track & Field Rating Index was released Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Only marks from the 2022 indoor and outdoor track & field seasons have been used in this objective compilation.

Defending co-champions South Plains (Texas) saw its lead dip below 300 points for the first time this year, but the Texans still own a commanding lead in the ratings. The Texans have eight national leaders among its 25 top-10 performances. In addition to topping all three relays, SPC has five athletes leading events – Jeremy Bembridge in the 400 (46.17), Kimar Farquharson in the 800 (1:46.88), Chris Robinson in the 400 hurdles (50.96), Kudakwashe Chadenga in the high jump (2.22m/7-3¼) and Thomas Nieto in the pole vault (5.41m/17-9). The Texans go 1-2 in two of those events as they also own the No. 2 mark in the 400 (Hossam Hatib at 46.63) and 800 (Aron Tanui at 1:48.76). Also owning at No. 2 mark for SPC is decathlete Nelvin Appiah-Konadu (6660).
Cloud County (Kan.) CC moves up to No. 2, its highest position of the year. The T-Birds have 18 top-10 marks, led by hammer thrower Mohamed Ahmed at 65.74m/215-8. Vincent Ugwoke rates No. 2 in the discus at 55.37m/181-8.
Dropping down a notch to No. 3 is Barton (Kan.) CC, the defending co-champion with South Plains. The Cougars have 17 top-10 and lead the nation in two events – the long jump with Shakwon Coke (7.83m/25-8¼) and the discus with Brandon Lloyd (56.97m/186-11).
Iowa Western CC remains No. 4. The Reivers improved their collection of top-10 marks to 12, with their top rating being a No. 2 in the 110 hurdles by Cortney Watkins at 13.94w. Seven of Iowa Western’s top-10 marks rate among the top-5.
Iowa Central CC follows at No. 5. The Tritons have 13 top-10 marks, with seven in the top-5, including triple jump leader Martin Lamou at 16.33m/53-7.
Rounding out the top-10 teams in the national TFRI are No. 6 Butler (Kan.) CC, No. 7 Coffeyville (Kan.) CC, No. 8 Mesa (Ariz.) CC, No. 9 Indian Hills (Iowa) CC and No. 10 Cowley (Kan.).
Just four weeks away are the 2022 NJCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships, scheduled May 19-21 at Hutchinson (Kan.) CC’s Gowans Stadium in Hutchinson, Kansas.
