2022 NCAA DIII Men’s Cross Country National Coaches’ Poll – Week 1

NEW ORLEANS – Business is picking up!

Here is the newest NCAA DIII Men’s Cross Country National Coaches’ Poll for the 2022 season, as released on Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Remember that this poll is conducted by counting votes from ten member coaches – one from each of the division’s ten regions – who also do the Regional Rankings each week.

Cross Country Polls & Rankings

Nothing changed when it comes to the order of the top-3 teams since the preseason, but the votes did: Pomona-Pitzer is now a unanimous No. 1 after taking the lone remaining first-place vote from No. 2 MIT; John Carroll sits No. 3 once again.

Wartburg, UW-La Crosse, SUNY Geneseo and Washington (Mo.) all shifted up one spot. The Iowa-based Knights are now ranked fourth after posting a win at the Les Duke Invitational. The Eagles cracked the top-5 for the first time this season at No. 5 after a controlled effort at the Ken Weidt Classic. The New York-based Knights turned in a strong effort in their season opener and the Bears posted a perfect score in a dual meet against Greenville.

RPI is the Biggest Mover of the Week after jumping 16 spots in Week 1. The Engineers went head-to-head with former No. 4 Williams at the Siena Invitational, among other teams, and came out with a team title. RPI put each of its top-5 runners in the top-15, led by individual runner-up Matthew Lecky (Elias Lindgren won and gave the Ephs the ultimate low stick). The Engineers finished with 44 points, compared to 69 for Siena and 89 for Williams.

UW-Whitewater held steady at No. 9, followed by the aforementioned Ephs at No. 10.

Mark your calendars for November 19, because that’s when the 2022 NCAA DIII Cross Country Championships will be held at the Forest Akers East Golf Course in Lansing, Michigan. This will be just the second time in meet history that the Mitten State will play host (Hope College welcomed the nation to Holland back in 1987).
