NEW ORLEANS – A big weekend means big changes.
Here is the newest NCAA DIII Women’s Cross Country National Coaches’ Poll for the 2022 season, as released on Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Remember that this poll is conducted by counting votes from ten member coaches – one from each of the division’s ten regions – who also do the Regional Rankings each week.

What about after that? That’s why we have the coaches vote.
Top-ranked SUNY Geneseo, second-ranked Wartburg and third-ranked Johns Hopkins held their respective spots once again. The New York-based Knights and the Blue Jays went head-to-head at the MSU Spartan Invitational this past weekend with the former putting a comfortable 15-point cushion between themselves. SUNY Geneseo finished third in the team standings behind NCAA DI No. 22 Michigan State and NCAA DII No. 2 Grand Valley State, while Johns Hopkins took fourth. The Blue Jays had the top finisher in Alex Ross (sixth), but the Knights sent six across in the top-40 scored athletes compared to just three from JHU.
The rest of the top-15 looks quite different than Week 1: UChicago jumped two spots from No. 6 to No. 4 following a runner-up effort at the Gil Dodds Invitational; MIT is now ranked No. 6; Washington (Mo.) improved two spots from No. 9 to No. 7 thanks to a victory at the Gil Dodds Invitational; Amherst climbed three spots from No. 11 to No. 8 after a big win at the Little Three Championships; UW-La Crosse is now ranked No. 9; both new-No. 10 Pomona-Pitzer and new-No. 11 Carleton saw their stock go up two spots (Carleton won the St. Olaf Invitational); and Middlebury surged six spots from No. 19 to No. 13.
UC Santa Cruz, NYU and Misericordia joined the poll at No. 21, No. 26 and No. 35, respectively. Both the Violets and the Cougars made history: NYU is ranked for just the second time since 2014; Misericordia is ranked for just the third time in program history.
Mark your calendars for November 19, because that’s when the 2022 NCAA DIII Cross Country Championships will be held at the Forest Akers East Golf Course in East Lansing, Michigan.
