2022 NJCAA DI Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Rating Index – Week 6

NEW ORLEANS – A close top three got even closer in the Week 6 edition of the 2022 NJCAA Women’s Outdoor National Track & Field Rating Index, which was released Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The top-3 teams shuffled at least one position for the fifth time in six weeks, with just 57 points separating No. 1 from No. 3.

Only marks from the 2022 indoor and outdoor track & field seasons have been used in this objective compilation.

Iowa Western CC is No. 1 for a third-straight week. The Reivers, who won the NJCAA Indoor Championships in March, have 24 top-10 marks, with 14 in the top-5 among four national leaders. Current National Athlete of the Week Hilda Chebet leads the Reivers, pacing the nation in two events (1500 at 4:30.19, 5000 at 16:07.40). Victory George tops the triple jump (12.86m/42-2¼) and Miracle Ailes leads the high jump (1.82m/5-11½), an event where the Reivers go 1-2 with Alliyah McNeil following.

Moving up to No. 2 is New Mexico JC after three-straight weeks at No. 3. The T-Birds have 26 top-10 marks with 11 in the top-5, led by nation-leading marks in three events – 200 with Deshana Skeete at 23.56w, 100  hurdles with Kimeone McLeod at 13.29w and 10,000 with Damaris Chewon at 36:33.60.

Barton (Kan.) CC drops to No. 3 after two weeks at No. 2. The Cougars have 26 top-10 marks, with 17 in the top-5 (most in the nation). The Cougars are also tied for the most national leaders with four – Ashantae Harvey (400, 53.15), Lashanna Graham (400 hurdles, 58.41), Nia Robinson (long jump, 6.36mw/20-10½w) and Kelsie Murrell-Ross (shot put, 16.00m/52-6).

Defending champion South Plains (Texas) remains No. 4. The Texans improved in terms of top-10 marks (to 19) and national leaders (to four, tied for most in the nation). Leading the nation for SPC are Success Umukoro (100 at 11.45w), Joniar Thomas (heptathlon at 5256) and the 4×100 (45.36) and 4×400 (3:41.67) relay teams.

Remaining No. 5 for the fifth-straight week is Cloud County (Kan.) CC. The T-Birds have 17 top-10 marks, two of which lead the nation – Jessi Brummett in the javelin (43.70m/143-5) and the 4×800 relay team (9:13.57).

Completing the top-10 teams in the national TFRI are No. 6 Central Arizona, No. 7 Indian Hills (Iowa) CC, No. 8 Mesa (Ariz.) CC, No. 9 Monroe-New Rochelle (N.Y.) and No. 10 Hinds (Miss.) CC.

The 2022 NJCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships are just two weeks away, scheduled for May 19-21 at Hutchinson (Kan.) CC’s Gowans Stadium in Hutchinson, Kansas.
