2023 NCAA DIII Women’s Cross Country National Coaches’ Poll – Week 3

NEW ORLEANS – The season is ramping up!

Here is the newest edition of the NCAA DIII Women’s Cross Country National Coaches’ Poll for the 2023 season, as released on Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). There were a few changes to the top-35, but you can be assured that there will be many more next week after a massive weekend beckons.

Don’t expect any changes amongst the top-4 teams: UChicago is still unanimous at No. 1, followed by Wartburg at No. 2, MIT at No. 3 and Carleton at No. 4. The Engineers turned back a game challenge from Williams this past weekend at the Purple Valley Classic to cement their spot. Johns Hopkins leapfrogged SUNY Geneseo to recapture a spot in the top-5.

The Ephs vaulted five spots to No. 11 after pushing MIT to the brink. Williams put four runners in the top-10 – led by individual champion Genna Girard at 21:44.0 – yet couldn’t overcome the Engineers’ depth with five in the top-10 at 2-3-4-5-9.

Farther down in the rankings, both Washington & Lee and Calvin jumped six spots. The Generals went from No. 33 to No. 27 after winning the “Short” version of the Dickinson Long-Short Invitational in a rout. The Knights were victorious in the “Long” portion of the same meet, taking down former No. 28 Carnegie Mellon behind an individual title by Hailey Erickson.

Look for some great racing this upcoming weekend between the Blugold Invitational on Friday as well as the Live in the Lou Cross Country Classic and Paul Short Run on Saturday. Three top-8 squads are entered in the College Female Gold race at the Paul Short Run: No. 5 Johns Hopkins, No. 6 SUNY Geneseo and No. 8 UW-La Crosse.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, November 18, because that’s when the 2023 NCAA DIII Cross Country Championships will be hosted by Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
