NEW ORLEANS – The Men’s Scholar Athlete of the Year and All-Academic Athletes for the 2023 NCAA Division III Cross Country season were announced on Thursday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Max Svienty of North Central (Ill.) was named the Men’s Scholar Athlete of the Year for the 2023 NCAA Division III Cross Country season. Svienty, who hails from Arlington, Illinois, and majors in elementary education, finished third at the 2023 NCAA DIII Cross Country Championships in Newville, Pennsylvania. This is the second time in program history that an athlete from North Central (Ill.) has been named Men’s Scholar Athlete of the Year during the cross country season (Svienty joins 2018 honoree Dhruvil Patel in that regard).
In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, student athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-25 percent of their respective regional championship meet.
