Each of the top-3 teams in Week 4 posted impressive victories: No. 1 UW-La Crosse, which is unanimous once again, dominated the Men’s 8k Gold at the Joe Piane Invitational, winning by 86 points over a plethora of NCAA DI programs; No. 2 Wartburg turned in a routine victory at its own Dan Huston Invitational, where it scored 15 points, led by a record-breaking run by Isaiah Hammerand; No. 3 Pomona-Pitzer, up two spots from Week 3, overcame a 1-2-4 finish by former No. 2, now No. 4 UW-Whitewater at the NCAA DIII Pre-National Invitational to win by 17 points, 65-82.
SUNY Geneseo soared ten spots from No. 18 to No. 8 following its victory in the Men’s College White 8k at the Paul Short Run. Charlie Wilson and Alex Hillyard led the Knights with second and fourth-place finishes, respectively, as they put their entire lineup in the top-45 en route to a 75-89 win over former No. 6 NYU with many other ranked programs in their wake.
Three NESCAC programs saw their stock rise since Week 3: former No. 19 Tufts is now ranked 13th for its best ranking since 2015 after a third-place finish at the Paul Short Run; former No. 23 Middlebury is now ranked 17th thanks to a fifth-place finish at the Paul Short Run; and Wesleyan (Conn.) joins the poll for the first time this season at No. 26 following a strong seventh-place result at the Pre-National Invitational.
Finally, UChicago leapt from the Land of Receiving Votes to No. 20 thanks to its sixth-place effort at the NCAA DIII Pre-National Invitational. The Maroons were just out of the top-5 – two points behind conference rival Washington (Mo.), which is now ranked No. 18.
Mark your calendars for Saturday, November 23, because that’s when the 2024 NCAA DIII Cross Country Championships will be held at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Indiana.
