Cross Country Polls & Rankings
If you were in the top-10 in Week 6, you didn’t move in Week 7.
That’s because you probably handled business at your conference championship.
Five champions sit in the top-5 positions of the National Coaches’ Poll: WIAC champion UW-La Crosse is still unanimous at No. 1; American Rivers champion Wartburg continues to hold down No. 2; SCIAC champion Pomona-Pitzer is firmly entrenched at No. 3; CCIW champion North Central (Ill.), which won its 50th consecutive conference title, is No. 4; and Empire 8 champion SUNY Geneseo rounds out the top-5 at No. 5. Each of those five programs left no doubt as to their prowess at those meets, winning with an average score of 21.6 points.
Four other conference champions close out the top-10 behind WIAC runner-up UW-Whitewater at No. 6: Liberty League champion RPI at No. 7; UAA champion NYU at No. 8; MIAC champion St. Olaf at No. 9; and NWC champion George Fox at No. 10.
Carnegie Mellon made the biggest jump in Week 7, climbing five spots from No. 16 to No. 11. The Tartans finished runner-up at the UAA Championships behind NYU. CMU received the individual title from Matthew Coyle and had two other top-10 runners in the meet.
And new to the National Coaches’ Poll is Carthage, which is ranked for the first time in program history. The Firebirds caught the electorate’s eye with their third-place finish at the CCIW Championships.
Mark your calendars for Saturday, November 23, because that’s when the 2024 NCAA DIII Cross Country Championships will be held at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Indiana.
