Texas and Alabama held steady at No. 1 and No. 2 for the fourth week in a row. To break it down further, the Longhorns have been the top-ranked squad all season long, while the Crimson Tide jumped into the top-5 in Week 4 and never looked back. Texas added or improved four national top-10 marks this past weekend at the Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Championships, including chart-topping efforts from Micaiah Harris in the 200 at a wind-aided 19.72 and Jonathan Jones in the 400 at 44.43. Alabama added or improved three national top-10 marks this past weekend at the SEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, headlined by Bobby Colantonio’s now second-ranked heave in the hammer of 72.59m (238-2).
Georgia jumped two spots from No. 5 to No. 3 in Week 8. The Bulldogs added or improved four national top-10 marks this past weekend at the SEC Outdoor Championships as Johannes Erm and Elija Godwin came on strong. Erm made his seasonal debut in the decathlon at the right time and qualified for the NCAA Championships with his 8132-point total, while Godwin is now ranked fourth nationally in the 400 at 44.81. All told, Georgia has nine national top-10 efforts.
Florida dropped one spot to No. 4. The Gators saw Champion Allison and Jacory Patterson improve their seasonal bests in the 400 at the SEC Outdoor Championships: Allison clocked a mark of 44.74 to cement his spot as the No. 3 performer; Patterson went 45.12 to hit No. 5.
Oregon soared two spots to No. 5 following a strong effort at the Pac-12 Outdoor Championships. The Ducks, who have eight national top-10 marks, saw Micah Williams sprint his way into the national conversation in the 200 with his 20.05 winner. Williams also tied for the seventh-fastest performance in collegiate history with his 9.93 PR this past weekend.
Here are the rest of the top-10 teams in Week 8: No. 6 LSU (down two spots), No. 7 Texas Tech (up two spots), No. 8 Baylor (up two spots), No. 9 BYU (up four spots) and No. 10 Texas A&M (down four spots).
