There were no changes among the top-5 teams: Texas is the top-ranked team for a sixth-straight week, followed by No. 2 Texas A&M, No. 3 Florida, No. 4 LSU and No. 5 Texas Tech.
Texas turned in two new or improved national top-10 marks to its resume at the LSU Invitational. The Longhorns’ 4×100 relay was victorious in Baton Rouge and clocked a season best 42.37 to improve upon their national lead in the event. Julien Alfred, who is credited with leading off that relay, also moved to No. 8 in the 200 with her 22.68 effort.
Texas A&M’s lone national top-10 effort came with a punch. Lamara Distin won the high jump at the Alumni Muster with a PR clearance of 1.97m (6-5½). That moved her into a tie for No. 4 on the all-time collegiate list and bettered her hold on the national lead in the event.
Florida turned in the most national top-5 marks this past weekend at the LSU Invitational with three, and all coming in the jumps. Natricia Hooper bounded to the national lead in the triple jump with a windy 14.18m (46-6¼). The Gators also picked up two big marks in the long jump: Jasmine Moore improved to No. 3 with a windy 6.82m (22-4½); Anna Hall soared all the way to No. 5 with a wind-aided 6.74m (22-1½).
LSU picked up an improved national top-5 mark at home hosting the LSU Invitational. Favour Ofili added another all-time effort to her resume, this time running 10.93 in the 100 to become the eighth-best performer in collegiate history. That pairs well with her collegiate record in the outdoor 200 meters she ran two weeks ago with her 21.96 clocking.
Texas Tech did not add any new or improved national top-10 marks, but did get a top-15 effort from Rosemary Chukwuma after clocking a season best 22.85 in the 200. That effort puts her at No. 15 on the Descending Order List.
Here are the rest of the top-10 teams in Week 6: No. 6 Arkansas, No. 7 Kentucky, No. 8 BYU, No. 9 Oregon and No. 10 Ohio State.
Mark your calendars for June 8-11, because that’s when the 2022 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon!
