Familiar faces continue to make up the top-5 in Week 2 of the National Coaches’ Poll: NC State reeled in all 11 first-place votes, followed by No. 2 New Mexico, co-No. 3s Colorado and Oklahoma State and No. 5 Stanford. The Cowgirls moved up one spot to earn its highest ranking in program history.
No. 6 Washington (up two spots), No. 7 BYU, No. 8 Notre Dame (down two spots), No. 9 Arkansas and No. 10 Alabama fill out the remainder of the top-10.
North Carolina continues to creep closer to the top-10 after climbing two spots to No. 11. The Tarheels won the Coaching Tree Invitational and topped now-No. 18 Georgetown, 37-53. Brynn Brown captured the individual title in 20:18.6 to lead UNC and earned M-F Athletic National Athlete of the Week honors for her efforts.
Three teams that were receiving votes a week ago earned the nod to join the top-30: No. 25 Ohio State and co-No. 29s California Baptist and Kentucky. The Lancers recently placed 11th at the UCR 41st Annual Cross Country Invitational, while the Wildcats placed a close second to Alabama at the North Alabama Showcase.
Change is right around the corner as many of our ranked teams are slated to compete at the Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Oklahoma and the Roy Griak Invitational in Falcon Heights, Minnesota.
Mark your calendars for November 19, as that’s when the 2022 NCAA DI Cross Country Championships will be held at the OSU Cross Country Course in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Don’t forget that the championship races will be broadcast commercial-free once again on ESPNU.
