Defending champion NC State will head to Stillwater, Oklahoma as the top-ranked team and favorite to win the team title after receiving 10 of 11 possible first-place votes. The Wolfpack, led by Katelyn Tuohy’s individual crown, romped to the team title at the Southeast Region Championships with 25 points. A victory on Saturday will give NC State its second NCAA title in program history.
New Mexico and Oklahoma State remained at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, after taking care of business at their regional championships. The Lobos placed three athletes in the top-9 as they went on to score 56 points for their second consecutive Mountain Region title. Over in the Midwest Region, the Cowgirls won their first regional championship since 2015 behind a 2-3 punch from Natalie Cook and Taylor Roe.
Notre Dame improved one spot to No. 4, while Alabama jumped two spots to No. 5 in the Pre-Championships Edition of the National Coaches’ Poll. The Fighting Irish put together a dominant performance at the Great Lakes Region Championships, scoring just 33 points to win their second-straight regional title with an individual title from Olivia Markezich. The Crimson Tide also won by a large margin at the South Region Championships as they scored 34 points behind a 2-3-4-5 finish.
The rest of the top-10 had plenty of shuffling following Regional Championships Friday: Northern Arizona fell to No. 3 after placing third in the Mountain Region, while regional runner-up Utah improved to No. 7; the next two spots go to the West Region champion and runner-up – No. 8 Stanford and No. 9 Oregon; BYU is at No. 10 following a sixth-place finish in the Mountain Region.
Other notable improvements came from the Mountain Region fourth-place team Colorado State (up eight spots from No. 20 to No. 12), Great Lakes Region runner-up Ohio State (up eight spots from No. 25 to No. 17) and the West Region fourth-place team Oregon State (moved from the Land of Receiving Votes to No. 23).
