Cross Country Polls & Rankings
The postseason can be a blessing or a curse. Some teams benefit greatly from the new wave of competition while others struggle to keep pace. In this instance, No. 1 Colorado School of Mines, No. 2 Wingate, No. 3 Grand Valley State, and No. 4 Adams State held steady. The Orediggers showed no signs of letting up from their throne as they took down the Grizzlies 32 to 59 at the RMAC Championship. The Bulldogs made it look easy at the SAC Championship, snatching a 39 point win while a few (hundred) miles away, the Lakers handled business at the GLIAC Championship, notching seven out of the top ten finishers.
No. 5 East Central (Okla.) hopped up the board four spots to crack the top five as the Tigers strutted back to campus with a GAC Championship individual title, team title, and meet record to their name. A couple more notches down the poll, No. 11 Lee (Tenn.) knocked off No. 25 Alabama-Huntsville at the GSC Championship, 33 to 59. The Flames leaned on depth to carry them to a crown and worked out quite well as they managed to log ten men before the Chargers were able to compile a complete score.
If anyone benefited from the high stakes it was No. 14 Saginaw Valley State and No. 16 Pittsburg State as both units surged TEN places up the rankings. The Cardinals flew to a runner-up finish at the GLIAC Championship where their top four scorers crossed the line within a single second. The Gorillas barreled through the Gans Creek course to an MIAA Championship victory for the second time in the last three years.
No. 6 Western Colorado, No. 19 Wayne State (Mich.), and No. 23 Fort Lewis also improved their billing in Week 6.
Mark your calendars for Saturday, November 18th, as the 2023 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships will take place at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course in Joplin, Missouri!
