Cross Country Polls & Rankings
There’s simply nothing better than the start of the postseason. Three out of the top five teams had the chance to settle any disputes at the RMAC Championship on Saturday. The results confirmed that Adams State are rightful owners of the No. 2 spot as the Grizzlies rumbled to a 24 point victory. Colorado School of Mines and Western Colorado dug in at the No. 3 and No. 4 spots as the Orediggers, led by Holly Moser, placed a trio of runners in the top ten, while the Mountaineers relied on the one-two punch of Allison Beasley and Leah Taylor, who finished second and eleventh.
On the other hand, the GLIAC stood no chance against Grand Valley State, the definitive No. 1 team in the nation. The Lakers swept the competition away, both figuratively and literally, totalling 15 points when the dust settled. The Lone Star Conference Championship laid the groundwork for West Texas A&M to shoot up the leaderboard to the No. 5 position. The Buffs etched their name into the history books by scoring just 20 points, the lowest in program history, and bringing home the team title for the first time in ten years.
Despite their close relationship in the West Region, No. 12 Western Washington and No. 13 Biola (Calif.) competed separately at the GNAC and PacWest Championships. That said, two dominating performances on hilly courses this weekend made it an easy decision to advance the Vikings and Eagles three rungs each.
No. 16 Cedarville, No. 20 Pittsburg State, No. 23 Mississippi College, No. 26 Wayne State (Mich.) and No. 28 Catawba also improved their billing in Week 6.
Mark your calendars for Saturday, November 18th, as the 2023 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships will take place at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course in Joplin, Missouri!
