Cross Country Polls & Rankings
Only six of the top-20 teams held their spots between Week 1 and Week 2: No. 1 MIT, No. 2 Williams, No. 7 Carnegie Mellon, No. 8 Washington (Mo.), No. 9 Amherst, and No. 17 Tufts.
The top-ranked Engineers, who are once again a unanimous selection, debuted at the Cardinal Invitational and ran roughshod over the competition. MIT put all seven runners in the top 11, including a 2-3-4 finish by Kate Sanderson, Gillian Roeder, and Rujuta Sane. The Engineers finished with a 39-second spread between Sanderson and their No. 5 runner Lexi Fernandez.
The second-ranked Ephs rolled to victory at the Purple Valley Classic, beating No. 17 Tufts by 38 points, 20-58. Williams went 2-3-4-5-6 with its scoring lineup led by individual runner-up Kate Swann. The Ephs had a meager 21-second spread between their first and fifth runners.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps shook up the top five as it jumped three spots from No. 6 to No. 3 after it steamrolled the field at DIII Pre-Nats. The Athenas put six runners in the top ten and put up just 22 points to take down No. 17 Vassar. Riley Capuano took individual runner-up honors with teammates Sadie Drucker, Elle Marsyla, and Sara Wexler not too far behind.
UChicago, NYU, and Johns Hopkins all slid down one spot to accommodate CMS’s rise. The Maroons turned in an emphatic result of their own, decimating the competition at the Gil Dodds Invitational. UChicago packed all seven runners in the top ten with Katja Dunayevich taking home the individual title in 21:38.7, nearly 14 seconds ahead of teammate Estelle Snider.
Elsewhere in the top 30, Carleton and Trine both climbed five spots from No. 16 to No. 11 and No. 21 to No. 16, respectively. The Knights captured the team title at the St. Olaf Invitational with just 24 points, while the Thunder roared at the Rumble in the Fort, taking down several NCAA DI opponents, namely Butler and Milwaukee.
Mark your calendars for Saturday, November 22, because that’s when the 2025 NCAA DIII Cross Country Championships will be held at the Roger Millikin Cross Country Course in Spartansburg, South Carolina.
