Cross Country Polls & Rankings
A couple of this teams took the week as a training week in order to prepare for the Lucian Rosa Invitational this Saturday, and a number of meets the following weekend. Specifically, No. 1 Adams State and No. 4 Colorado School of Mines will race in Wisconsin, as the Grizzlies aim to validate their No. 1 ranking.
Notably, we will not see a direct matchup yet between the first, second, and third nationally-ranked teams, as West Texas A&M and Grand Valley State will be absent from the UW-Parkside-hosted meet. The Buffaloes have opted to compete at the Louisville Classic instead, whilst The Lakers will next compete on October 3 at the Joe Piane Invitational. No. 5 Wingate is set to race next at Paul Short Run on the same weekend.
No. 6 Cedarville rose three places after its team won the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Championship with a score of 20 points this past weekend. The Yellow Jackets ran as a tight pack placing all five of their scorers in the top six led by Emily Walsh’s runner up finish. The following ranked teams fell one place due to this rise including No. 7 Western Colorado, No. 8 UC-Colorado Springs, and No. 9 Lewis. Fort Lewis improved one spot from No. 11 to No. 10 for its first top-ten ranking of the season in this week’s National Coaches Poll.
No. 13 Winona State had an outstanding performance at the Roy Griak Invitational Maroon Race, which led it to rising nine places in this week’s rankings. The Warriors won convincingly with a 1-2-3 punch for 27 points. Sophia Taarud claimed the individual win in 22:19.4, supported by Kylie Anderson, and Ella Voit.
The Lucian Rosa Invitational is the de facto Pre-National meet for NCAA DII and it will be an exciting preview with many nationally-ranked teams battling it out for early season bragging rights. Teams will also gain valuable insight to the course that will host the 2025 NCAA DII Cross Country Championships on Saturday, November 22.
