Cross Country Polls & Rankings
Steady goes it for the Bulldogs. No. 1 Wingate played host at the Bulldog Stampede this weekend with 7000 meters to evaluate their Southeast Region competition. As is tradition, the time to run hard hasn’t yet arrived. For the Bulldogs, that moment comes on October 3 at the Paul Short Run.
You can’t say the same for No. 2 Colo. School of Mines and No. 3 Adams State. The two powerhouses are ready to square off at the Lucian Rosa Classic. It’s rare that we get to see the Orediggers and the Grizzlies go head-to-head before the RMAC Championships. How rare? Well, according to their schedules, the two have run against each other on just five occasions in the last decade outside of the conference meet.
Colo. School of Mines and Adams State won’t be alone in Wisconsin, though. They’ll be joined by seven other ranked programs: No. 6 Lee (Tenn.), No. 10 Saginaw Valley State, No. 12 Cal Poly Pomona, No. 14 UC-Colorado Springs, No. 21 Alabama-Huntsville, No. 28 Illinois-Springfield, and No. 30 Tampa.
Having swung for the fences at the Michigan State Spartan Invite, No. 4 Grand Valley State is off again. The Lakers are sitting tight before ramping back up for the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invite on October 3.
In the same boat is No. 5 Colorado Christian. The Cougars traveled to the Roadrunners Invitational this weekend, but elected to rest their A-squad. Next on the slate for them is the Lewis Crossover on October 11, historically a strong Midwest meet. Last year it featured five of the top-15 teams in the country.
No. 13 Pittsburg State made up the most ground this week, gaining seven spots. The top Division II squad at the Missouri Southern Stampede, the Gorillas handled No. 26 Missouri Southern and No. 29 East Central (Okla.) with ease, opening up a 39 point gap by the time the dust had settled. Tyler Atkins, Dylan Sprecker, and Nathan Hinrichs were to thank. The trio boasted a 13 second spread, starting at 23:53.1, to go 4-5-10.
Soaring up the standings in their own right is No. 20 Michigan Tech. The Huskies’ victory at the Roy Griak Maroon Race turned heads as they put seven in the top-20, totaling just 35 points. The runner-up score? Triple digits… Michael Dennis led the pack with his 26:39 8k to grab second and the rest fell in line, placing 6-8-10-15 over the next 24 seconds.
Mark your calendars for Saturday, November 22, because that’s when the 2025 NCAA DII Cross Country Championships will be held at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
