Cross Country Polls & Rankings

The top-6 teams held steady after taking care of business on Regional Championships Saturday.

  • South Central Region champion Adams State received all eight first-place votes and heads to the NCAA meet as the favorite to win its third consecutive national title
  • Grand Valley State, who remained in the No. 2 spot all season, captured its 21st consecutive Midwest Region title with just 31 points, with Midwest Region runner-up Cedarville at No. 6
  • Colorado School of Mines and UC-Colorado Springs remained at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, after finishing second and third in the South Central Region
  • Augustana (S.D.) romped to it’s third-straight team title at the Central Region Championships to stay put at No. 5

Three of the next four spots belong to regional champions: West Region champion Stanislaus State improved from No. 8 to No. 7; Southeast Region champion Wingate improved from No. 9 to No. 8; South Region champion Lee (Tenn.) improved from No. 11 to No. 10.

Ninth-ranked CSU-Pueblo is making its first top-10 appearance of the season after soaring seven spots from No. 16. The Thunderwolves captured a fourth-place finish in the South Central Region, beating former No. 10 Western Colorado (now No. 12) and former No. 9 Dallas Baptist (now No. 23) in the process.

Seven other teams jumped multiple spots outside of the top-10 in the National Coaches’ Poll: West Region runner-up Chico State is at No. 11 (up two spots from No. 13); Central Region runner-up Pittsburg State is at No. 13 (up two spots from No. 15); South Central sixth-place finisher West Texas A&M is at No. 16 (up eight spots form No. 24); Midwest third-place finisher Wayne State (Mich.) is at No. 18 (up three spots from No. 21); Central fourth-place finisher Neb.-Kearney is at No. 19 (up four spots from No. 23); Central seventh-place team Northwest Missouri is at No. 24 (up three from No. 27); South Region runner-up Palm Beach Atlantic is at No. 26 (up four spots from No. 30).
